Do you think like a successful business owner?
Think about that for a second.
Do you THINK, therefore, FEEL, take the ACTION of and get the RESULTS of a successful business owner?
For me this is one of THE biggest pieces of the puzzle. 20% strategy, 80% mindset.
Your mindset is all about how you THINK and the habits you have based on your beliefs and programmes that you may have had since you were a kid.
Because that’s essentially what so many people are doing right now when their unconscious is dominating!
The bottom line is, I don’t believe you are ANY less capable than any of the people you see online, that you look up to, that you see doing or having what you want. It’s all 100% possible, for YOU.
You know you’re capable of it too, that’s the frustration.
Deep down you KNOW you can do it, you know the things that would get you there, but you just can’t quite seem to get yourself there.
We all have our own definition of success so when i’m talking about this you take it to mean YOUR definition of success, whatever that is for you.
The mistake that I see people make is thinking along the lines of ‘When I HAVE X, I will DO Y and BE Z’.
An example of this may be, ‘When I have lost some weight THEN I will go on facebook live all the time and that will get me a successful business.
When you’re thinking like that first of all you’re always waiting, you’re making excuses as to why you can’t have, be or do right NOW which delays your success but you’re also agreeing with your subconscious identity of ‘I’m not thin enough to be on video and therefore not good enough to have a successful business’.
Or maybe it’s an unconscious belief that you’re not worthy of success, but you would be if you were thinner!
Can you see how all this is going to do is hold you back when 95-99% of what you’re doing is run on autopilot from your unconscious?
There are SO many unconscious beliefs and programmes running in those statements that will always keep you stuck
We need to smash those out of the water.
You have to BE the person, to DO the thing to HAVE the success, NOT the other way around.
Operate from a place where it’s ALREADY your reality because THAT’s how it becomes your reality (here’s where some good old fashioned visualisation comes in handy!).
I know it sounds a bit woo but it’s brain sciency stuff so stick with me.
Your unconscious is working on the premise that you are always right and will look for all the ways to prove it to you.
A great example of this is weight again, (you can tell where I’ve had some serious issues in the past, ha! But it’s also where most people can relate!) So you lose weight, feel great and then go straight back to your old eating habits and gain it again and end up in this lose, gain cycle.
That’s because your unconscious identity takes you right back to your old patterns, your old identity of being the person who doesn’t work out every day, likes to veg out on the sofa and isn’t a ‘thin’ person.
THIS is why the most successful weight losers are ones who shift their reasons for doing it to changing who they are on an unconscious level (without realising that’s what they’re doing!).
For example, for me it was (after about 15 years of yoyoing!) for health reasons and a complete lifestyle change, rather than a short term fix where you don’t eat carbs for 3 months.
That method doesn’t change your unconscious identity and doesn’t allow you the time to change your habits because the whole time you’re essentially telling yourself it’s short term and you will go back to ‘normal’ soon…and then what happens?!
It’s the same reason that 70% of lottery winners go broke within a few years of winning millions!
Their unconscious identity is not that of a ‘wealthy’ person. (you can see why you need to do some serious work on money mindset too here!)
These patterns are everywhere and it’s why it’s SO important to make sure we identify them and change them to something more helpful because they are running the show.
Everything is a belief and you DO have control over what you think, it can take some practice to identify and catch the thoughts that are unhelpful but it soon becomes second nature.
We filter out anything our unconscious mind is not already wired to believe.
It’s time to get yourself off autopilot.
They’re wired differently.
If you start to study them you’ll start to notice some key similarities.
Their beliefs, their faith in it working out, they look after themselves body and mind (diet, exercise, meditation etc), they practice gratitude, they make sure they get enough sleep, they don’t make excuses, they walk towards fear not away from it, they know that failure is part of the process.
I could go on but the more you consciously look for these commonalities the more you will see them.
One set of business owners do have it slightly easier to start with and those are the people who haven’t grown up with what I call ‘corporate’ beliefs.
Being taught that having a job and a regular income plus benefits, where you work your way up the ranks etc etc is the safest and carries the most prestige.
Urgh…you can see why those beliefs can make it difficult when starting your own business is just that…starting again…back at the bottom, that you worked so many years to get away from urgh!
Many will be 1st generation entrepreneurs. Like me. These people have to work a little harder to begin with.
My Dad was a school teacher and house master and my mum was the school nurse so it was long hours and hard work to live paycheck to paycheck. Don’t get me wrong I had a GREAT childhood but those were the beliefs I saw, took on and modelled which are fine for corporate, not so much for running your own business.
You have to work really hard for your money and then you have to justify everything you spend.
My parents however, also taught me to be a self starter, to always do my best and gave me a bloomin great work ethic (essential as a business owner!) which took me far BUT the first bit is what gets in the way.
Whereas often you see some of the most successful entrepreneurs are 3rd or 4th generation entrepreneurs.
They grew up with beliefs around owning a business being easier. Being the norm. You can see how those beliefs and that identity make it far easier.
Now, none of this way of thinking is your fault. It’s what you’ve been taught at some point in your life, usually before you’re even 7 years old.
It’s coping mechanisms that you learned. BUT…guess what…you can unlearn it!
You can get your subconscious mind to work FOR you rather than against you.
You get to reprogramme your brain and rewire it to be who you want to be and live how you want to live.
So who is that?
What are the characteristics of people you admire that you aren’t currently modelling?
What are their habits?
What do you notice about them?
What do THEY do, that you’re not right now?
Who do you have to BE that you’re not currently being, to DO what you know will move the needle and HAVE exactly what you want?
Is it confidence? Commitment? Resilience? What traits do you need to model?
Live from who THAT person is rather than where you’re at right now.
A belief is just a thought repeated over time. So change your thoughts, change your beliefs, change your actions and change your results. Everything you want is waiting on the other side.
